The Help System

The Help Browser
It’s not easy to use a versatile program such as Scribus without any guidance and tips. Scribus basically offers two different kinds of assistance for its users. The first one is the Help Browser. You can open it via Help > Scribus Manual from the menu bar or by pressing the F1 key.
The Help Browser consists of two display fields. On the left, you can navigate through the tree structure of the documentation. On the right, you can read about the selected topic:
The Help Browser isn’t just useful for reading the help files. You can also do a full text search in the available documentation if you click on of the “Search” tab on top of the tree view:
You can also use the menu bar or a keyboard shortcut for the same purpuse: Click Edit > Find or press Ctrl+F on the keyboard. To continue searching for the same word, use F3; to go back to a previous entry of a word, press Shift+F3. The only difference with this kind of search is that the Help Browser will bring up a separate dialog where you can enter the word you want to search for:
Another helpful feature of the Help Browser is its ability to create bookmarks, which allows you to find important informations more easily. It works exactly as in most web browsers: either you click Bookmarks > Add Bookmark in the Menu Bar or you press Ctrl+D on the keyboard or you click the “New” button at the bottom of the “Bookmarks” tab. This will bring up a dialog where you can enter a name for the new bookmark:
The bookmark will show up in the “Bookmarks” tab on top of the tree view.
To delete a single bookmark or all bookmarks, use Bookmark > Delete or Bookmark > Delete All in the menu bar or use the buttons at the bottom of the “Bookmarks” tab:
Tooltips
Another important help feature in Scribus are tooltips. If you want to benefit from them, make sure they are enabled. To check this, go to Help > Tooltips and see if the entry is marked by a checkbox.
Tooltips in Scribus are different from other programs in that they are often quite extensive. Many important details are presented to you when you hover your mouse pointer over buttons and fields in Scribus, as you can see on the image below.
