The Scrapbook

Sometimes, items like logos will be used more than once in a document. If you don't want to search your hard drive each time you need such a file, you can copy it to the Scrapbook for later use.

To copy an item to the Scrapbook, select it, open the Context Menu and click Send to Scrapbook. You can also use Item > Send to Scrapbook from the Menu Bar:

This will bring up a new dialog where you have enter a name for the new Scrapbook item:

Now you can open the Scrapbook via Windows > Scrapbook. In our example, we have copied the red star to the Scrapbook and called it "Star1":

To get an item from the Scrapbook back to your document, you can simply drag it with the mouse to the position you want it to be placed. What you are doing is making a copy of the saved item to your Document, which means that the Scrapbook still contains your item, and you can drag and drop as many copies as you wish.

In the Scrapbook you can Rename or Delete items by clicking the right mouse button:

The Scrapbook dialog has only one menu item called File:

  • New will create a new tab in the dialog. Please note that you will have to select a directory on your hard drive, not a single file in the file dialog that opens when you click New. If you later copy items to this new Scrapbook, they will be stored in the chosen directory. Each Scrapbook is displayed in a separate tab.
  • Load will open an already existing scrapbook directory.
  • Save As lets you save a Scrapbook in another directory. Please note that you have to choose a directory.
  • Import Scrapbook File: Scribus stores information about files and other objects (like text frames) in Scrapbooks in a library file. Scribus library files use the extention *.scs. You can load such a file (and thereby a Scrapbook) by using this menu entry.
  • Close will close the displayed tab in the Scrapbook.

Comments

It seems a bit inside-out to me. Perhaps better to start with showing the Scrapbook, showing that it has tabs corresponding to collections of saved items. The original one is called Main, then others can be added later. Then show how to navigate the Scrapbook dialog as you did at the bottom. THEN show how to save an item to the Scrapbook. I realize it's not how you begin to use Scrapbook for the first time, but I just think it's a good idea for people to understand its concept before they put stuff in it. - G Pittman

It would be nice in the drag and drop paragraph to change the graphic so you see a fully displayed frame after it has been dropped. (Added some text there, if you don't mind.) - G Pittman
